Play Review
We watched a play named Romeo and Juliet on September first at a park in New Haven. The director of the play is a women named Raphael Massie. He thinks" we are living in time where hate has been given permission to polarizing effect. In the Romeo and Juliet this division of sides creates a chasm which, ultimately, can only bridged by love." So this play's theme is love. And the Major actor in this play is Jamison, Johnson, Andreassi and Brown. They are the people who act Juliet, Romeo, Monk and Nurse. And in my opinion these four people have great acting skills because they can show their emotion to the audience, and the exaggerated action also make the show become more vivid.
The story is about two people's love story. The main characters Romeo and Juliet was two people that going to married. Juliet's mother made a party to celebrate her daughter is going to married a noble named Paris. During the party two main characters met each other Romeo and Juliet fall in love at first sight. After few months they found the monk and married. After few months Juliet is going to married Paris, But she already married to Romeo so she found out a solution: go to find monk. Monk gave a potion that will make her appear dead. When Romeo knows Juliet was dead he bought a poison drink and dead beside the Juliet, after Juliet woke up she found out that Romeo was dead she also killed herself. The theme of the play is love and friend. Two main charter pursuit of happiness. After they know their families have a bad relationship they still want be married shows their confident and their persistent of love. Teenagers need the confident like this. Love is a thing that can any problems that we have. But the ending is tragic, because Juliet is appear dead but Romeo thought she is dead, So he drink the poison. In the end the two person can't have a lovely life. Without the help of friends they can't be couples. During the story Nurse always helps Juliet to find Romeo and Nurse also promote the relationship between the characters.
During the play the lighting engineer use orange to present daytime, and use black to present night, But during the night there are beam of light showing on the characters, so audience can realize which is character and which is buildings. And when the people dead the light will change from bright to dark to shows the difference. Usually the nobles and the guardian have luxury costume, so that it can shows these people have money to buy beautiful clothes, But the servant always wear the cheap clothes and it looks single colored. The director use this to compare the people in different social level. Every time when the play change the scene there will be a short music to remind the audience " we are going to change the scene." And also there will be many noise of animals like birds insect. In my opinion those sounds can let the play become vivid.
In the play my favorite actor is Jamison. The actor who acts Juliet. Se makes the characters successful because she has a unrivaled acting skills of emotion. When she was acting the scene Juliet was crying after she knows Romeo kills her. The cry is very exaggerated. Because Juliet was very sad, she can't lives with Romeo and she thinks her parents will hate Romeo. She has to make a exaggerated behavior in order to shows the emotion that Juliet has. The action of crying is vivid at that time I can feel the emotion of the characters. I think let the audience to feel or know what is character's feeling is very important. In my opinion this is a ways to become successful. In the second way the she has confidents and she spoke loudly and fluently. For a actor is important to be confident, because some people will feel afraid when they are standing in front of many people, But Jamison did a great job on this part. She shows she is free when she is acting. That's why I can feel the emotion of Juliet when she was crying. This is very important, because when a people feel free when they are acting they will go inside that characters and make the characters become true to life. For example when she was kissing with Romeo is just like a normal couple. It won't let us feel they are embarrassing.
In my opinion I like this play very much because it show the meaning of love. And I also like the confidents that Romeo has. Romeo still love Juliet after he knows the relationship between two families. Many people love each other but when they meet some problems, they are easy to give up. But for these two main characters they loved many problems. I always believed a saying: love can solve any problems, everything is weak when they facing love. I also learnt that we have to insist to do a thing. We can't give up easily, because everything is possible. Our society needs peace instead of war. We should be nice to others. We can't judge a love depend on the relationship between the families, that's not fair to the couple.
