Presentation

Last week I learned a lot from the presentation that my classmates did. I knew the background information of many famous actor, teacher and director. They are knowledgeable people, they can teach many things to their students. I also learned their views of acting, I recognition what is acting, they let me know more concepts of acting, their views of acting broadened my horizons. I also learned their techniques, for Stanislavsky's techniques is keep asking the questions about "what if", the purpose of this technique is to let the actor to understand more about the character. Let the actor to go inside the character and let them to feel the emotion and characteristic of each character. For Michael Chekhov's technique is based on the universe, and use the universe to related to acting. Experiences from practicing he said that "becomes your technique, the more you meet them, the more you see them. " this shows that one actor should have broad vision in order to act a character well. They have to try to figure out the emotion in a particular time. Michael Chekhov also said we should understand the movement of a character, so that we can act more vivid during the play. For my person, her technique's name is nine question, it's like nine questions about the character, she wrote this nine questions for her students to prepare before the acting. These nine questions is very specific, so that I can get more information from the character. The questions is about the background information, the relationships between two character and what do my character want. These questions include all the information we need to ask. From the activity and the videos we participated and watched I first-hand experience the techniques of many famous people, I learned how to use the techniques, if we just listen to the techniques we barely memorized the techniques. But we experience these techniques by ourselves, so that we can understand these techniques better.

These techniques is very helpful to my character I'm gong to act in the next play. Because the play I'm going to act will shows the relationship between my mom and my brother. In scene 2, my mom Amanda find out that I didn't go to the school, our relationship have changed during the process. My mom becomes very angry and disappointed. In the first scene my character Laura respect her mom and she always care about her mom, Laura always let her mom have a good emotion. After the second scene their relationship might changes. If I related this scene to the 'nine questions' technique I can know more about Laura at that moment. For the scene I also have to understand the characteristic about Laura, so that I can figure out the emotion of Laura when Laura's brother Tom breaks Laura's Glass Menagerie. In that scene Laura only has one sentence to say. In the movie we watched, Laura shows more about her facial expression. In order to know what kind of person Laura is, I have to keep asking myself " what do I want", " what is in my way", so that I can know more about Laura.
