We Real Cool

               The Pool Players.
        Seven at the Golden Shovel.

            We real cool. We   

            Left school. We

            Lurk late. We

            Strike straight. We

            Sing sin. We   

            Thin gin. We

            Jazz June. We   

            Die soon.

I think this poem is dactyl poem. Because I think the first word in the poem is light stress, the second word is a light stress, and the third word is a heavy stress. Depends on the Metrical feet and symbols I know that this poem is a three-foot line called monometer. Because there is a period after three words. When I read these three words I think "we" is the light stress, because this word in the sentence is not very important. This word won't change the meaning of the sentence. I think the other two words is the important things, these two words show the meaning and the event that is happened. I think these two words are more important, so the poet uses monometer to show intense of feeling and meaning. Because this poem is short so the poet can only use monometer for this poem. In this poem the poet puts "we" at the end of every lines, unless the last one. So the scheme rhyme for this poem is "aaaaaaab" , I think this poem is free verse, because the poet writes this poem in a different verse. it's different from the traditional verse style. In the poem there are sour stanza. In each stanza the poet uses same sound in two word, in the first stanza the poet uses "coo"l and "school". This two word have same "u" sound. In the second stanza is "late" and "straight". This two words have the "a" sound. In the third stanza is "sin" and "gin". This two words have the "in" sound. In the last stanza is "June" and "soon". This two words have the "n" sound.

In the beginning of the poem the poet tells us the character---"pool players". I think the "pool players" is the people in the poem. The poet also tells us the time and the place, "seven" means seven o'clock. These players meet at " Golden Shovel" I think the poet writes this poem in a relax mood, because when I read the title of the poem, it says that "we real cool" real cool can show the relax mood of the poet. After I read this short poem I realized that this poem this talking about the life of people. Because in the whole poem the poet uses we as the subject. First the poet talks about they lest school, actually the high school students will do this things. After that they strike straight means that they got a work. Then they grow up to the age that is legal to drink gin and sing sin. When these people become older they play jazz in June. When they play Jazz in June, means they are going to die. My opinion is the poet is telling a story of a group of people doing things together even they are going to die. The beginning of the poem and the end of the poem have echoes, because everyone has a good starts of life. People will do many cool thing in their life, and everyone has one day to die. This poem is writing about the events in the past, because is hard to see gin and jazz. Jazz and gin is popular in past like 20 century.
