Reflect on your experience last week exploring Verbatim Theater. Why do you think people do it? What does it accomplish? What was your experience like (and your group's experience)? Was the process difficult? And if so, how so? Were any aspects easier than others? Did you enjoy it? Why or why not? What did you learn?
Verbatim Theater is kind of play that is using the spoken words of people. The documentary play is similar to people's life, because the direction usually use a interview form to produce a play. One person interview another person about a specific topic or event. The director has to invite the people from all over the world to do the interview. I think people produce this kind of play are going gain more ideas or opinions from the people that are from different areas. Different people have different opinions, so that when audience watch the play they will gain more informations of the topic or event. People can also compare others opinion with themselves' to find the difference. In this play I provided many opinion of Markin Hall is better than VDP. I gave my opinions to my teammates to show my perspectives. When we have a group discussion we split the advantages and disadvantages into many points. Such as Markin has AC but VDP doesn't, the dorm parents in Markin are better than VDP, and Markin has laundry room but VDP hasn't. After we list these points the audience can understand that why and how Markin is better than VDP. I think there are some difficulties during the process, in our group we have to record a interview between Yun and Josh. We have to look at their body language and their accent when they speak. After that Nan and Aaron have to imitate them. I think the imitate process is very difficult. Because people already familiar with their speaking style and they have their own body language, if they are going to imitate another person they need to practice and observe the person who is imitated carefully.I think providing ideas is much easier because everyone has their own ideas of each dorm. I'm enjoy it, because I think know more about others ideas is very cool and I can compare their opinions with mine. I can gain more knowledge from others ideas. From this play I learned how to imitate people, you need to observe their action and speaking style. Talk to the person that you are imitating, ask their opinions is also important.
