Blog Post 3 -- Compare Night Women to New York Day Women.

In the " New York Day Women " the author focus on a woman that is a Haitian and live in Brooklyn. In the " Night Women " the author talks about the mother in Haiti. Two characters have different identities and they also don't have the same kinds of job. In Haiti, the night woman is a prostitute who has to do this job. She doesn't like the job, but in order to take care of her son, she has to do that. For the New York day woman, she has a better job than night woman does. But she always gives her daughter a hard time. In Haiti people usually has to sign up for a list in order to get a job. But for night woman she doesn't sign up for the list, so the job she can take is the prostitute. The night woman doesn't like this job. For the day woman, she has more opportunity to get a job. In the United States, I think people can find a job by themselves. I think the day woman likes her job because, during the time she spends with the little kids, there's smile on her face. Compare these two characters, they have different opportunity to choose a job. But for night woman, she has enough time to look after her son, she chooses this job because of her son. She doesn't have many things to do during the day. She can put all her attention on her son. Day woman has to do outside during the day, she has to look after others' kids. In the book, the day woman says that she doesn't want to make her daughter ashamed for this day woman. She cares about her daughter but she can't spend time with her. Also in the book, the author writes that " My mom, who never went to any of my parent-teacher association meetings.

In the two stories, two moms love their kids, they just didn't use the same way to love them. In order to let their kids have a better life. They try their best to achieve the goal. For Suzette's mom, she always uses a negative and sassy tone to talk with her daughter. Although she does that, the conversations they have shows that Suzette's mom loves her daughter. For the night woman, she uses another way to show her love. She picked a job that affects her a lot. But the night woman doesn't care, the only thing she cares about is her son. In the United States, the day woman barely goes outdoor, only when she has customers. She will find many excuses to avoid going outside. The night woman also barely go outside. The Night woman also can't go outside, because of her job her neighbors may discuss her when they saw her. Also, she has to stay at home to look after her son. 

Two characters have different identities. The day women is a person who is a nanny. The day women always have a negative, sassy, and critical tone when she talks to her daughter. They live in Brooklyn where has many Dominicans and many immigrants. For the Night women, she is a prostitute, a mom, and a Haitian. She doesn't have many things to worry. She is strong because although she lost her husband, she still take the responsibility of raising her son.
