Notes of Caroline's Wedding

Character List 

Grace: When she was about twenty years old, she immigrant from Haiti to the United States. After that, she becomes an American Citizen, she neither follows the Haitian tradition nor follows the American tradition. She loves her family and she supports her family. She wants her sister Caroline to be happy, but when she faces to Caroline's leave she feels sad. 

Ma: Grace's and Caroline's mother.  She still follows Haiti's tradition. She feels sad that her daughter Caroline married to a Bahamian. Ma thinks Haiti's culture will end in Caroline's family. 

Caroline: A young Haitian American woman. She is kind of fit to American culture. In the opposite side, Caroline can't accept her mom's Haitian culture. She is an independent person, sometimes she feels not confident about her forearms. 

Eric: He is a Bahamian who is engaged with Caroline. He loves Caroline and he wants to give security and love to Caroline. He is kind of slow but he is a nice person. 

Summary

Ma feels sad about her daughter is marrying Eric who is not a Haitian. She makes bone soup every day, in order to stop the engagement. She feels this way can save her daughter. In the story, Grace also has dreams about her father spends lots of efforts on immigration. Including her father married a widow and divorced in order to mover father's family to America. Actually, Ma very worries about her daughter, she also worries about this marriage. Before the marriage ceremony, Caroline is nervous about it, Ma keep calming her daughter down. After that Grace went to see her father's grave to tell him about the things that happened currently. Then she went back home and help her mom to make the bone soup. 

Personal idea

I think that Ma shouldn't use her own idea to stop her daughter's love. Everyone has the right to get married. Right now they are living in the United States, Americans embraced freedom. Ma and her family are not living in Haiti. There is an old saying "do in Rome as the Romans do". Personally, I think they should learn more about the American culture
