Notes of Epilogue
In the epilogue, the narrator is unnamed but possibly the narrator is Danticat herself. In the story, the narrator keeps using " you" so that the narrator uses the second person to write this epilogue. The title of this story is that " the women like us" it relates to many stories in this book because in the book many main characters don't have a name. The author wants to recall the stories in the book. At the beginning of this epilogue, the author says that her mom and her grandma and her female ancestors are similar to her. In the epilogue, the narrator's mom disagrees with the narrator because her mom thinks if the narrator becomes a writer, she will be killed. But the narrator loves writing stories, and she wants to become a writer. The narrator's mom thinks that the women in Haiti should learn how to cook, she wants the narrator to maintain the Haitian tradition. Narrator's mom thinks the narrator should become a nurse to support the family. The narrator thinks that writing can maintain the events that happened in the past, she wants to record the histories.
