poem notes

1. Success is counted sweetestBy those who ne'er succeed. To comprehend a nectarRequires sorest need.

Not one of all the purple HostWho took the Flag todayCan tell the definitionSo clear of victory

As he defeated – dying –On whose forbidden earThe distant strains of triumphBurst agonized and clear!

In her poems, she likes to use sweetest. She also used many words that not usually used, in her poem I can clearly notice that she like to stay alone by herself

2. “Hope” is the thing with feathers - AThat perches in the soul -BAnd sings the tune without the words -AAnd never stops - at all -B

And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard -CAnd sore must be the storm -DThat could abash the little BirdCThat kept so many warm -D

I’ve heard it in the chillest land -EAnd on the strangest Sea -FYet - never - in Extremity, GIt asked a crumb - of me. F

Hope---feathers
sweetest---gale
land---sea
In this poem, the rhyme style is more organized compared to other poems. Emily Dickinson also used metaphor in this poem in the first two stanzas

3. Tell all the truth but tell it slant —Success in Circuit liesToo bright for our infirm DelightThe Truth's superb surpriseAs Lightning to the Children easedWith explanation kindThe Truth must dazzle graduallyOr every man be blind —

This poem only has one stanza, it uses the metaphor in this poem. Imagine success in Circuit lines. She wants others to say the truth and tell it slant. I think she wants others to be honest to other people.

4. I’m Nobody! Who are you? A
Are you – Nobody – too? A
Then there’s a pair of us! B
Don’t tell! they’d advertise – you know! C

How dreary – to be – Somebody! D
How public – like a Frog –  E
To tell one’s name – the livelong June –  F
To an admiring Bog! E

The scheme rhyme of the first stanza for this poem is AABC, "you" and "too" have the same
rhyme. In the second stanza, frog and bog have the same rhyme. In this poem, there is many wired capital word, Somebody, Nobody, Frog, Bog. There's also many some weird punctuation.
