The story is mainly about Viola and Sebastian are brother and sister, they almost look the same. But one day because of a marine accident they lost each other. Viola was saved by an old captain, and she disguises as a boy---Cesario and serves the Lord. Viola's brother was saved by a pirates Antonio. Lord Orsino loves Olivia and he lets Viola be the messenger to send his proposal to Olivia, but at that time Viola already loves Orsino. After Viola meets Olivia, Olivia also falls in love with Viola, so that Viola, Orsino, and Olivia have a very complicated relationship. In Olivia's house, she has a servant named Malvolio he thinks he is the most powerful servant in Olivia's house and he feels uncomfortable with having parties at night. so that Maria, Sir Toby, and Feste want to make a joke on Malvolio. They write a letter to Malvolio and let him think it's Olivia write to him so that he will wear the ugly socks and keep laughing. Olivia thinks Malvolio is crazy so that she let Toby takes care of Malvolio. At the same time, Viola's brother also comes to this island Toby and Olivia think this person is Viola so Toby fight with Sebastian and Olivia makes a proposal to Sebastian. In the end, Orsino finds out that Cesario is a girl and he falls in love with Viola. In the end, it is a happy ending, but Malvolio is the only person who feels sad and unhappy.
I think the main theme in this play is love because everything happens because of love. For example, Orsino loves Olivia, then Viola can meet Olivia and let Olivia crush on Viola. Also, Because Malvolio thinks Olivia loves him so that he will be sent to the small dark room. And because of love, all the people besides Malvolio can have a happy ending.
When I enter the theater I feel like the theater at Yale is much better than our black box. In Yale's theater, they have the stage that can move up and down, they have the stage that has multiple layers. Their stage setting is very fancy and beautiful. It can let me feel the atmosphere of the play and notice when does the play take place just depend on the setting. When the scene takes place in their house, I can see some furniture that looks expensive. On the stage, there is also a screen that looks like a projector people can see the thing like a video on the screen. When Toby and other people are having a party in the house the stage will become darker because it's night time. When Malvolio is taken to the small black room the light will just point on Malvolio. In the first scene, when Orsino and Olivia enter the stage their costume looks so fancy and dignified. For the servants, they just wear normal dress and clothes. At the end of the story, there 's some music that can allow anyone to dance, it can express a happy mood to the audience. In this play, they used lots of technologies such as auto-tune and the example of VR. It can show that it's a modernized play. The person who has more power stand in the center of the stage, in the first scene, when Orsino is talking to Viola the other servant just stand on the side of the stage. When Olivia first time enters the stage the servants just followed her to show Olivia's power.
I like the fool in the play because I like his voice when he starts to sing. He used auto-tune when he was singing. He can use his music to make the whole theater yell for him. He can warm up the atmosphere in the theater He also has some exaggerated movements and languages that makes me laugh a lot. He adds body language and facial expression when he says some funny sentences. I like this play because I learned how to use body movements and languages to make the audience laugh and I like the story, it's interesting and I can't predict what will happen next, it's miracle. I also like the story which has a happy ending.
